North Korean leader Kim Jong-un says Pyongyang will reconnect the inter-Korean hotline, an important link between the reclusive north and reunification officials in the south that has been offline for over two months. But Kim said the offer, made at a meeting of North Korea’s rubber stamp parliament – the Supreme People's Assembly on September 29, 2021, depended on the “attitude of South Korean authorities”. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the north severed the lines to its southern neighbour the Republic of Korea (ROK) in early August. Pyongyang said it was to protest against joint US-South Korean military drills, which along with a series of missile launches by Seoul and Pyongyang, have further raised tensions on the divided peninsula.
